I can't even access the support page as I've been able to do in the past. Is that because I didn't opt for an extended warranty? Or is it caused by the most recent W10 update? Will Microsoft update the bios, important drivers, etc? If so, I don't care about Dell Assist. But in the past I've been able to access their support webpages long after the warranty expired. My Dell Assist is working. Windows 10,Home updated through I do have the service contract though.
I've been using Dell Assist for years, sometimes it "disappears" or won''t work, I've re-installed it a few times, it always worked afterwards I found Dell Assists on my computer the latest w10 and uninstalled them all. When I go to the Dell laptop support page, it requires that I enter my service tag; when I did it forced me to download the Support Assist app again.
Don't enter the service tag. Do a web search for your particular model ; in my case, I search for Dell Inspiron The search returned Dell links to support pages. Fotograffic, I have not used the Dell Assist in a very long time.
I checked and it is nowhere on my computer. I have a XPS desktop, running Windows 10, pro. I have no problem going to the Dell support page entering my service tag and accessing the drivers for my computer. I don't know which browser you're using, but I tried with Chrome and Edge and had no problems accessing the drivers and downloads on the left side of the page. You might try going to the site using 'incognito mode', might help. It is important to get to the driver page as that is where the bios updates are to inoculate your computer against Spectre with Dell's bios update.
I hate to say it, but if you can't access the page, you might have to call Dell to get it straightened out. If I enter my computer model instead of using auto detect or entering the service tag, I'm brought to the drivers and downloads page for my model, it seems I might be able to bypass being forced to download Support Assist. I was trying it with the service tag and just now followed the just type in model number here, but it doesn't seem to want to let me check drivers without Support Assist. I have tried to download it, but I keep getting an error message saying it can't install it because of an error, maybe due to an Internet connection, but the Internet connection is fine.
I have been living just fine using the computer for hours on end everyday, but I don't like it when things aren't working right. I will give Dell a call, but if anyone else has a clue, I would be interested in advice. Is there something else running that could give it the erroneous idea that there is an internet connection problem??? I deleted all Dell bloatware like this and just go direct to the Dell drivers support page periodically to check for new drivers.

Unless you're willing to spend a lot of time learning a bunch of stuff most people aren't interested in. It is easier nowadays than it used to be; "Google is your friend. That's why nontechnical people need technical people around in an increasingly technical world. Specifically, that's a means of verifying that the file was downloaded correctly and wasn't altered along the way.
I generally ignore that unless a problem occurs. Perhaps the easiest, non-techy way, is having 7-Zip installed. With it, there will be a checksum option added to the right-click context menu. The generated checksum can then be compared to the one supplied.
